Blast & Prime Processing You Can Rely On

At Premium Plate, we combine stainless-steel shot abrasive blasting and primer application into a streamlined service. Our process includes SSPC SP-10 blasting to create a sharp, dense surface profile, followed by application of inorganic weldable primers or high-film epoxy coatings, all before cutting, beveling, or rolling. Because plates are pre-processed in a controlled environment, customers avoid costly on-site surface prep and coating removal. Our REDI-PLATE™ system logs each plate’s processing history and quality data, then stencils the plate per customer instructions prior to shipping.

Process Details and Performance Advantages

The purpose of our workflow is to deliver steel plates that are shot blasted up to 88 ft long and 12 ft wide, that are processed on a downdraft table with clean, weldable surfaces. They are long-term corrosion-resistant and fully ready for fabrication.

Capabilities

  • Steel Shot Abrasive Blasting Media: Shot blasting steel to the SSPC SP-10 standard for a sharp, dense profile.
  • Priming: Application of inorganic weldable pre-construction primers, and non-weldable organic/inorganic primers or epoxies at higher film builds.
  • Processed plates: They can be plasma cut, beveled, and rolled without removing the coating.
  • Individual QA tracking: Each plate’s data is recorded electronically and retained in our database.

Benefits:

  • Saves field labor and avoids costly re-blasting on site.
  • Enhances corrosion protection and reduces coating failures.
  • Delivers consistent finish quality and traceable documentation.
  • Minimizes surface prep in downstream fabrication and reduces overall cost.
  • Integrated workflow with cutting, forming, and coating services

Reliability and precision are inherently built into every plate we process.

FAQs About Blast and Prime

By achieving the SSPC SP-10 surface profile and applying pre-construction primers in controlled conditions, the plate substrate is better prepared for coatings and downstream fabrication. This also reduces weld spatter damage and corrosion.
Each plate is individually tracked; processing data is recorded electronically, and the plate is stenciled to customer specifications before shipment.
Lead time varies by quantity and specifications. But our integrated facility and streamlined workflow help expedite turnaround relative to field blasting and priming.
Factors include weldability requirements and anticipated service environment (corrosion, chemical exposure). Additionally, it is necessary to determine whether a heavy-film epoxy or a pre-construction primer is warranted.
A sharp, dense profile free of mill scale, rust, and coating for steel shot blasting services. It’s suitable for high-adhesion primers and long-term protection.
